Scottish Country Dancing
Scottish country dancing is Scotland’s social dance. There are Scottish dance clubs all over the world… including Cádiz!
In our classes, the music sounds just like a live performance… but it’s recorded, and is usually played on the accordion, fiddle or piano.
Dancing is fun and a perfect way to meet new people. It also improves balance, posture, fitness and keeps you mentally active.
We dance in groups (or sets) of eight people, arranged in two lines of four, facing each other.
There are lively, fast dances such as jigs and reels, and slower, more elegant ones such as strathspeys.
The members of the set help each other in every dance. It’s all about teamwork!
You can see us in action in this video!
As with all dances, there is an etiquette.
Here’s a link so you can find out more about it.

Do I need a partner?
No, you do not need to bring a partner.
We change partners for each dance and there's always someone to dance with.
More experienced dancers partner with new dancers to help them.

What do I wear?
Come along in comfortable clothes that let you move easily.
Sometimes men wear kilts but that’s not essential!
Some dancers wear special Scottish dance shoes. Soft, flat-soled shoes are fine to start with. Do not wear sandals, boots or high heels.

How do I start?
Come along to our new dancers’ classes.
You’ll be dancing from your very first evening!
